The history of the Mobi - Roll

5 years ago, during a jogging competition, I accidentally stepped with my left foot into an asphalt edge of a newly built road.

After the doctor's shock diagnosis - tear of the syndesmosis ligament - a phase of at least 6 weeks of complete relief of the left foot was to follow (max. load 5 KG!!!).

As an entrepreneur, this was a catastrophic diagnosis which would have caused considerable problems for our company.

Already after discharge from the hospital, the whole dilemma was apparent in a few minutes: not even a cup of coffee could be transported with the prescribed crutches; already the way out of the hospital seemed interminably long with crutches.

It was clear, an alternative had to be found.

Because of the (too) much time, I soon discovered a knee roller, unknown to me. My doctor had told me about something like it - but he didn't have any more detailed information.

After ordering, I received a Chinese construction within a few days that changed my life forever.

In a few minutes, the vehicle was assembled, the height of the knee rest and the handlebars adjusted.

As was well known in childhood, the knee scooter drove in a similar way to the children's scooter: place the knee of the injured leg - hold the steering and walk or push off with the healthy leg - it's child's play!

With this first knee scooter I was able to do most things of daily life again

• Movement within the flat - with transport of various things - food - work material - computer - IPAD - etc.

• Independence for small trips - supermarket shopping, restaurant visits or even extended shopping trips.

• Work - unhindered mobility in the context of the job.

• Travel - routes through airports, sightseeing tours, walks - in short, anything where there was a paved path.

In short - the restrictions were considerably minimised.

Unfortunately, my operation had to be repeated after 2 years; moreover, I also injured my right foot a year ago and also had to take a break for 8 weeks.

During this time, I decided to make my "best friend + helper" known to a broad public.

After all, 120,000 patients suffer an injury below the knee every year - even 10,000 ankle injuries (of varying severity) occur in patients every day today.

Here, an injury during sports (football No. 1) is the most common.

But: my 24 weeks of experience as a "test pilot" showed me all the points that needed improvement.

This gave rise to the MOBI roll presented here.

All weaknesses of the existing "similar" models were revised:

1. Suspension/wheels - an unsafe ride arises from the non-existent suspension of the simple "China models" only by using sprung wheels did the ride feel stable here. It was important not to use pneumatic wheels, as these again cause complications when the air pressure drops or a foreign object destroys the tyre.

2. Suspension also at the rear due to special tyres and separate suspension

3. Brake with 2 brake levers - to be operated separately by both hands independently of each other - with locking function. This gives you a stable stand at work, in the kitchen or during leisure time.

4. Bag - not only shopping but all things of daily life can be transported: Mobile phone, tablet, PC, drinks, magazines, coffee to go, etc.

5. Steering - the specially designed steering geometry allows a 90 degree turn within only one metre - complete turn 180 degrees approx. 1.40 cm.

6. Handles and bell are important aids when you are outdoors.

7. The comfortable seat on which the knee of the injured leg rests has a recess in the area of the knee to relieve the knee - at the same time, this 90 degree recess ensures that the Mobi-Roll can be used as a stand when working.

8. By means of an ingenious folding mechanism, the Mobi-Roll can be folded or completely dismantled in a few steps - without tools.

This means that the Mobi-Roll can fit into even the smallest vehicles.

After my experiences were incorporated into a new production, the Mobi-Roll could now go on its journey.

As already widely used in the USA, we offer our Mobi-Roll in a rental model - you order a period of time prescribed by your doctor - we ship the next day - after recovery you simply send your beloved "helper" back again.
